Celebrate #IWD2022

From an institutional standpoint, organizations and businesses approach International Women’s Day in their own way - developing a theme or initiatives which support goals and values within their organization. Marches, events and many list the top 5, top 10, top 15 and more opportunities  to celebrate the leadership, strength, and courage of women and girls. This post is not one of those but we would like to leave you with three organizations and what they are doing for #IWD2022.

If you look across the internet and social media on March 8, 2022 there is no shortage of topics, stories and events about International Women's Day. It is truly an international event, recognized as a Holiday in over 27 countries around the world and widely observed in several others. The first incarnation of International Women’s Day was celebrated all the way back in 1911 and has had a rich history ever since.

As a woman entrepreneur and business owner who was not born in the United States, the mother of three young women and the daughter of a women business owner, International Women’s Day has increasingly gained more importance to me. While amazing women have all been involved in space exploration, created scientific breakthroughs, programmed code and have won World Cup soccer tournaments, which have all changed the world, but those accomplishments are still not enough. It has become more important than ever for each of us to support and help each other towards creating more equality and valuable opportunities for women.

Here are a few organizations and the steps they are taking to uplifting women and celebrating

International Woman's Day 2022.

The United Nations

Theme: “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow

The United Nation has many interesting facts about why we need to celebrate and support women. Did you know that women and girls experience the greatest impacts of the climate crisis which put their lives and livelihoods at risk across the world? They often have less access to natural resources and often bear a disproportionate responsibility for securing food, water, and fuel.

Interesting to us as a promotional branding company, the UN has partnered with the visual artist Burcu Köleli to develop imagery illustrating the 2022 theme. They have neatly wrapped the artwork into a brand kit for web and social media. Here is an opportunity to view a simple brand kit, with beautiful art.

IWD Community (internationalwomensday.com)

Theme: “Break the Bias”

The IWD Community, which is the primary website for International Women’s Day, calls on everyone to “Break the Bias” to create a world that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive DEI. Key to making this a reality, they stress that getting there requires calling out inequality where it exists.

While the IWD does not have a brand kit, they have created an opportunity for a viral moment that works well on social media along with other content including;

All of these ideas above are terrific for promoting an event or cause. And last but not least, if you wish to embody the hashtag, you can by striking the IWD #BreakTheBias pose.

Google

And of course #IWD2022 would not be complete without an animated google doodle. For International Women’s Day, the Google Doodle transports viewers through an animated slideshow around the world to give a glimpse into the everyday lives of women across different cultures.

The artist of the doodle shares her thoughts behind the making of this Doodle along with sketches of the doodle in progress. Maybe not interesting to everyone but as designers we love this kind of stuff!

Google has also curated a visual tour de force of women in culture within the Google Arts & Culture pages. This features interesting facts along with women working at the top of their game throughout the world.

Business Boosters

If you received one of our earlier emails, you will know that there is something about Frappes. Frappes (aka. smoothies) are a morning ritual at our home/office and the experimentation never ends. For International Women’s Day we created a Four Spice Golden Milk Frappe. It is rich with spices from India, Sri Lanka and South America. We envision these special spices representing an international flavor perfect for this International Women’s Day 2022.

This frappe will look and travel well in a colorful, 24 Oz., triple walled, Corkcicle Tumbler.
